Temporary crowns dos and don’ts.

When your first appointment for a crown/ bridge is done, you will be going home with a provisional temporary crown. Here are the things to watch for.

  1. A mild sensitivity to cold with some gum tissue irritation/tenderness is expected, brush the area and rinse with warm salt water for few day.
  2. Avoid sticky and hard food.
  3. Avoid flossing if possible, however routine brushing must be continued .
  4. Call and report any intolerable pain to the dentist.
  5. Call the dentist immediately if the temp crown falls off before the permanent crown appointment.
  6. Please remember, temporary crowns are not designed to stay in for months, you must not ignore the permanent tooth appointment.
  7. If the temporary crown get lost or broke a new temporary must be made to prevent shifting of teeth that might lead to the need to fabricate a new crown which could be an extra cost.
